ALICE MARIE RICE LITTLE Dec. 6 1928 - Jan. 21, 2014 After a brief brave and courageous struggle with cancer, Alice Marie Rice Little went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 21, 2014. Born in Crestline, Ohio on December 26, 1928 to Julia Maudesta Blanche Matthias Rice and Vaughn Rice, Alice spent her childhood in Crestline and graduated from Crestline High School. On September 20, 1947, Alice married Robert Cosper Little of Mansfield, Ohio. The couple had four children and built a home together in Galion, Ohio. The family moved to California in 1959 where Robert Little was employed as a test engineer at Lockheed Missiles and Space Company and Alice was employed as a home specialist. In 1960, the family relocated to Santa Cruz where they resided for 13 years. Loving to travel, Alice and Robert journeyed across the United States for two years in a Ford Econoline van, toured Europe and enjoyed camping on the beach in Hawaii. The couple spent their retirement years in Paradise, CA and volunteered together at the Salvation Army Chico Corps prior to Robert's passing on March 21, 2001. Alice was very active as a Salvation Army Home League Secretary for 25 years and retired from her volunteer position on Feb 23, 2013. Alice was optimistic, vibrant, energetic, had a generous and giving heart and was always willing to help those in need. She was a gifted listener and counselor. Earlier this year, Alice followed her dream and became a volunteer Chaplain with Feather River Hospital where she prayed for and ministered to patients. She loved her home, family, parties, traveling, reading, handwork and Home League activities. Alice is survived by her younger sister, Carolyn (Marvin) Heydinger, sons William Charles (Diane) Little of Castroville, and James Edward (Helen) of Paradise and daughters Barbara Ann Little of Roseville and Rebecca Jo (Jeffrey) Davis of Redding, five nieces and two nephews, seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren who dearly loved and will miss her. Her older brother, Harold Rice, and parents pre-deceased her. The family wishes to thank the Feather River Hospital Hospice Team for providing Alice and her family with caring support and assistance at a difficult time. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 3pm at the Salvation Army Chico Corps, 567 E. 16th Street, Chico, California. Arrangements entrusted to the Neptune Society of No CA., Chico Branch.
