She was born on July 22, 1928 to Glenn and Martha Goodlive. Her grandparents raised her and sister, Lucille in Palo Alto, California. Ellen raised her family in Durham and later moved to Chico. She also spent many days of the past 30 years as a vendor in Paradise, and waving at every passerby. She was known by all as, Ellen's Melons, and later, The Rug Lady.
She is survived by her seven children. Bob (Dee) (Dilbeck) Phillips,. Bud (Jo) Dilbeck, Tom (Nanette) Dilbeck. Shirley Powell, Marti (Bob) Domyancic, Cindy Battenfield and Peggy Porter.
Ellen was very quick to brag about her seven children, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren with two more on the way.
