Paul Gerald Carter passed away at Feather River Hospital in Paradise on Friday, March 8, 2013. He was born on November 23, 1936 in Merced, California to Paul and Helen Carter. In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served for 24 years, retiring as an Aviations Ordinance Master Chief Petty Officer. During his early naval years, he met and married his beautiful wife, Anita Hernandez, on September 9, 1962. In late 1964, they welcomed their first-born son, Paul "Allen" and 16 months later they welcomed their second son Frank Edward.

Upon Paul's military retirement in 1977, he and Anita decided to move from Virginia Beach, VA to Paradise, CA to be close to all their relatives. The family embraced all of the wonderful outdoor activities that Paradise and the mountains had to offer. He coached both baseball and football teams for his sons in their younger years. Paul also picked up a new hobby, he became an enthusiastic "Rock Hound" and an active member of the Paradise Gem and Mineral Club as well as having served for many years as a member of the Superior Cal Gem and Mineral Club. Paul and Anita travelled to various shows and venues from California to Colorado to showcase their rock collections, winning a few awards along the way. They also were co-owners of the store "The Ridge Jewelry Beads & Gifts" until deciding to retire in 2006.
Paul is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anita, sons Allen and Frank, five grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Braxley, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home in Paradise.
