Vincent H. Lombardo, 91, of Magalia, passed on March 31, 2013, in Chico. Vincent was born on Oct. 28, 1921, in Pittsburg, CA. to Paul and Vincenza (Virginia) Lombardo. He worked at a local bakery in Pittsburg where he learned how to make various breads and donuts. In 1942, after WWII broke out , he entered into the US Navy, he was just 21 years old. He served at a Baker 3rd class Petty Officer, on board the USS Nimitz and USS California, and was stationed at the islands of Saipan and Tinian, in the Northern Mariana Islands. This was the site of the departure point for the first atomic bomb attack on Japan. After his discharge in 1946, he married Anne W. Robinson, and raised twin boys, David and Donald. He worked at Fiberboard Pulp Mill for 35 yrs. And after retiring moved from Antioch to the ridge in 1989. He was an avid golfer, and loved to bake special treats for friends and family. He was a member of the Paradise Golf Club and the Paradise Men's Club. He was a loving father. He was a devoted husband and caregiver to Anne before she passed away in April of last year. They were married for over 64 years. A graveside ceremony will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the Veterans Court of Honor, in the Glen Oaks Memorial Park Cemetery in Chico.
