June Cadenhead Obituary
June Cadenhead passed away in Petaluma, California, on March 11, 2013. Born on June 3, 1923, in Belleville, Illinois, to Emil Paul Schilling and Anita Alvina Pannier (Schilling), June married her childhood sweetheart Edward "Eddie" Hettenhausen in 1941. Eddie, a young soldier preparing to go off to war, shipped out soon after. June then followed her mother and sister to San Francisco and embarked on what would be a fifty-year career in accounting with San Francisco grocery magnate Tom Giannini. Eddie returned safely, but the couple divorced eight years later. In 1959, June married Curtis (Curt) Lee Cadenhead and the newlyweds moved into a flat on Cabrillo Street in San Francisco's Richmond District before buying a home in Daly City. June and Curt spent their retirement years in the tiny hamlet of Magalia in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Following her beloved husband's death in 1996, June moved to the nearby community of Paradise where she spent fourteen wonderful years. In 2010, she returned to the Bay Area to be near her sister.
June adored her family and many loving friends, who all knew her as a compassionate, independent woman whose greatest joy was shopping. For her, shopping was more than a pastime, it was a way of life, best summed up in one of her favorite quotes: "Shopping doesn't make the world go round; shopping makes the ride worthwhile."
June is survived by her sister Bonnie Knight Rosenthal of Novato, California, her nephew Tom Knight of San Rafael, California, her grandnephew Michael Knight of San Rafael, California, her cousin Bob Cooper and his wife Joan of St. Louis, Missouri, their daughters Lisa Cooper of Vancouver, Washington, and Lynette Ryan (Cooper), her husband Kevin Ryan, and their four children of Byrnes Mill, Missouri, and the Pannier family of Belleville, Illinois. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Craig Memorial Church in Paradise, California, with interment at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois.
