Edward Conry, 97, died May 10 in the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Paradise, where he had lived for the last six months. He moved to Feather Canyon in Paradise from Oceanside four years ago.
Ed was born May 9, 1916 in Tracy City, Tennessee. His family moved to Indiana and then settled in Louisville, Kentucky where he grew up. He worked as a carpenter doing anything and everything to make it through the depression. He served in The Army in Italy during World War II.
After the war he and his family moved to Southern California. He worked as a carpenter and finally settled at the Long Beach Naval Ship Yard where he worked until his retirement in 1974 as a production manager.
Ed's retirement was full and active. He loved playing golf and got that illusive hole in one on June 5, 1996 at the age of 80. He enjoyed dancing, taking cruises, and taking his RV all over the U.S. and Canada.
His first wife of 34 years Irene, his second wife of 30 years Louise, his eldest son David, and his grandson Mark predeceased him.
Ed is survived by is son Tom and daughter-in-law Tamara; his grandchildren Will, Katie, Aubrey, Aly, Bob and Kim; five great-grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
The family request that in lieu of flowers a donation can be made in his name to the Honor Flight Network. This organization flies veterans to Washington D.C. to visit the various war memorials at no charge to the Vet. Go to www.honorflight.org to make a donation in the name of Edward E. After a private inurnment at the Paradise Cemetery, a celebration of life will be held at the home of Tom and Tamara Conry on Friday May 24, starting at 4:00pm.
