Mary Louise Scanlan Humbert, age 89, a resident of Beltsville, MD for 47 years, died July 29, 2013.

Mary Louise, the oldest of a family of six children, was born in Ebensburg, PA to Leo and Marie Scanlan on January 5, 1924. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Johnstown, PA in 1945. Her nursing career began with the Visiting Nurses Association in New Brunswick, NJ; and she continued her love of nursing for ten years at Episcopal Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital and George Washington University Hospital.
She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beltsville, MD for 47 years and was previously a parishioner of St. John the Baptist De La Salle Catholic Church in Hyattsville, MD. She also volunteered for the P.G. County Mental Health Association for three years.
Her beloved husband of 36 years, William L. Humbert died in 1986. She was a devoted mother of seven children: Bill (Linda) Humbert of Park City, UT; Shirley (Dennis) O'Donnell of Raleigh, NC; Jean (Mark) Schutt of Tampa, FL; Rick Humbert of Grasonville, MD; Carol (Rick) Boettinger of Beltsville, MD; Ron (Debbie) Humbert of Charlottesville, VA; and Catherine (Dale) Delozier of Stafford, VA; a loving grandmother of 17 grandchildren and several "grand in-laws", and a proud great-grandmother of three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers: Robert Scanlan of Riverdale, MD; Norbert Scanlan of Stroudsburg, PA; Leonard Scanlan of Stroudsburg, PA; her sister, Dorothy Miller of Parma, OH; her sister-in-law, Helen "Tokey" (Clement) Scanlan, currently of Hagerstown, MD; and she was predeceased by her brother, Clement Scanlan, formerly of Davidsonville, MD, and parents, Leo and Marie Scanlan of Ebensburg, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in College Park, MD before her interment at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Mary Louise had requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her name be made by mail to S.O.M.E.
