Obituary
Hoshaw, Robert J.
June 19, 1931- January 11, 2013

Bob died peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Los Angeles, but spent his high school years in Bakersfield, where he lettered in four sports: track, football, basketball, and baseball. Bob was elected president of the Big B Sports Association of Bakersfield High. Along with this honor, Bob was also elected student body president of his class of 600 students.
With scholarships, he enrolled at the University of Southern California and graduated from the school on Engineering, and has since been a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
After his years at USC, Bob joined the Army and, with an honorable discharge, he joined an industrial construction firm, Alex Robertson Co. As head of the heavy industrial division, he left the firm in 1970 after 20 years to partner with Beard-Hoshaw Development Company. Bob built residential communities, shopping centers and apartment communities. In 1996 Bob formed his own property management company that is strong to this day, thanks to a great team he was fond of and loved.
Bob was married for 45 years to the love of his life, Ursula Brokuf. He often stated, "Ursula is the best thing that ever happened to me." They have resided in Corona del Mar for the past 40 years. Their love of travel has taken them to many parts of the globe. Other activities were skiing, and for Bob, also golf, which brought them to beautiful Park City, Utah in 1990. There they spent many happy summer and winter times, never far from their fun loving skiing and golf partners.
Bob's love of life, spontaneity and ever present big smile showed how much he loved and enjoyed his family and friends.
Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Ursula and by his children, whom he loved so much and enjoyed being with. Son Greg and his wife Linda; daughter Pamela Pederson and her husband Bruce; his three grandchildren, Michelle and her husband Adam; Traci and her husband, Archie; and Gregory and his wife Julie; his great-gandchildren, Kyle, Jackson, Violet, Easton, Emma and Nolan. Also by his beloved sister, Barbara Frison and her husband Paul; his nieces, Marianne Elders and her husband Phil; Jill Cortez; and their children.
A private graveside service for the immediate family will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park in Newport Beach. A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 11 AM at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, 2046 Mar Vista Drive, Newport Beach, 92660. Telephone 949 644-0200.
A celebration of Bob's life will be planned in Park City in a few months.
