Susan Peterson Obituary

Susan Peterson, who enjoyed a lifetime of traveling the world and exploring the outdoors with her husband Howard, passed away peacefully on April 21 at home in Kamas, Utah.
The former Susan Renton met her lifetime companion Howard Peterson during an ice climbing ascent on New Hampshire's Mt. Washington in 1976. They were married in 1989 at Heber City, Utah. Always together, Susan and Howard visited over 80 countries, setting foot on all continents – following their passion for travel and outdoor adventure. In the lead up to the Salt Lake City Olympics, Susan and Howard played a key role in the formation of the Soldier Hollow Legacy Foundation in 2000, where she worked for many years in guest services, her smile greeting tens of thousands of skiers over the years. She was also well known for pioneering the Bowl of Soup fundraiser held annually.
Susan was born August 20, 1951 in Providence, Rhode Island, growing up in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, the daughter of Walter Renton and Carol Brown. She earned an art degree and loved to work in interior design. Susan is survived by her husband, Howard; a sister, Kathleen, from North Carolina; two brothers, Larry Renton of Virginia and TF Renton from Florida; as well as a niece and nephew, Jenn and Tim Biffert, of Utah.
A celebration of Susan Peterson's life will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Soldier Hollow Lodge. Friends and family are invited to join in an afternoon of music, good food and conversation with friends.
