Cecil "Chicho" Zarate

Cecil "Chicho" Zarate 83, a lifelong resident of Azusa, California, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2012 at home with his beloved family by his side. After a courageous three month battle with pancreatic cancer, The Lord said it was time and led him to eternal heaven.

Cecil is survived by Carmen "Anna", his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, daughter Mandy Braun (Phil), son Mark (Monica), grandchildren Lindsay & Keith Braun, siblings Mike (Ophelia), Nacho (Dolores), Lupe Torres (Joe) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

From 1950 - 1953, Cecil served his country in the United States Army reaching Private First Class while stationed in Virginia, Washington State and Alaska. Upon his honorable discharge, he was employed as a machine operator for United Concrete Pipe Company in Baldwin Park, California from 1954 - 1981. After his temporary retirement, Cecil worked part-time for Citrus College in field maintenance from 1984 until his death. An avid fan of UCLA athletics, he also enjoyed Dodgers baseball, Lakers basketball and WWE wrestling. During his spare time, Cecil loved to work in his yard and keep it looking immaculate, along with spoiling his two grandchildren. These pleasures always brought a proud smile to his face.

Visitation will be held at Oakdale Mortuary in Glendora, California on Wednesday, January 9th from 5:30 - 8:30 pm with rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Frances of Rome Church in Azusa on Thursday, January 10th at 9:00 am with gravesite burial immediately following at Oakdale Cemetery.
