Dennis Eugene Cunning

Graduated to heaven on March 13, 2013 in West Covina, CA, at age 103.
He came to America in May, 1912 on The Tuetonic when his family failed to get booking on The Titanic. He grew up in Fort Madison, Iowa. His business experience began when he ran a refreshment stand in the city park as a sophomore in high school. He was a football star and remembers playing in the snow. He caddied regularly for W. A. Shaeffer, Pres. of the Shaeffer Pen Company. His family moved to San Bernardino, CA in 1928 after he graduated from high school. He met his wife, Lois, fell in love on the first date, and was married to his beloved 67 years until her death in 2000.
Dennis was transferred to Covina in 1949 by So. Calif. Edison. He retired as their Pomona/Ontario/Covina Area Accounting Manager after 45 years of service. He then served as Church Business Administrator for Christ First Baptist Church Covina for 7 years. He faithfully served on every board and committee of Calvary Baptist in San Bernardino, as well as Christ First in Covina. He was Pres. of So. Hills Kiwanis, Area Chairman of the United Way, and on the Christian Community Credit Union's founding Board of Directors.
Dennis is survived by his daughter, Joanne Mitchell; son-in-law, Harold Mitchell; granddaughter, Cyndi Payne, her husband, Joe Payne; and his beloved caregiver, Maria Mendez, where he lived at Bridgecreek Retirement Community for 13 years. Dennis will live on in our memories with his warm smile, eternal optimism, and love for his Savior, Jesus Christ.
