Hilda was born to Adolf and Melinda Leininger in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She was baptized into the Christian faith as a baby at Zion Lutheran church, walking with Jesus by grace through faith her entire life and now into eternity. Hilda
attended Zion Lutheran School and then South Side High School before entering Northwestern University Nursing School in 1942. Because of the war, she completed her studies in an accelerated program, graduating in 3 years. She then came to California where she worked in the V.A. hospital in Santa Monica. She married George Cusson on Thanksgiving Day in 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, a marriage which would thrive and endure for almost 50 years until George's death. They made their home in San Gabriel. She worked for many years at San Gabriel Community Hospital, earned her degree in nursing from CSULA, and became one of the nation's first quality control nurses. Hilda was a longtime member first at Emmaus First Lutheran Church in Alhambra and then at First Lutheran Church in Temple City. The Lord blessed Hilda and George with 3 sons, Stephen, Bradley, and Jeffrey (who preceded her in death) one daughter, Dorothea, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 29th, at 10AM, at First Lutheran Church of Temple City. Internment and a reception will follow. It is requested that any memorials be given to First Lutheran Church of Temple City, California.
