JOHNSON-Mae E., age 87, a long-time Pasadena/Altadena resident, passed away peacefully at her home in Altadena on August 7, 2014. Mae was born on March 3, 1927 in Dodson, Louisiana to Ethel L. Nears-Blankenship and Robert L. Blankenship. As a child she attended school in Dodson. Moving to Pasadena in her teens, Mae completed her education at Pasadena City College in the nursing program and later worked at Huntington Memorial Hospital. She married Charles Johnson, Jr. and raised three children in Pasadena. Mae was a faithful member of Metropolitan Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three of her six siblings. She is survived by her sisters Queen Ester Hampton of Pacoima, CA, Gale Blankenship of Pasadena, CA, and brother Mack Blankenship of Apple Valley, CA; daughter Sharon Ware Sarpong (Sam) of Altadena, CA, son Gregory Johnson of Altadena, CA, and daughter Shirley Worship (Rickey) of Pasadena, CA; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing will be held 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 13. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 2283 North Fair Oaks Avenue, Altadena, CA 91001; repast will be at the same location. Interment at Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery, 2400 North Fair Oaks Avenue, Altadena, CA. Woods-Valentine Mortuary, Pasadena, directing.
