May 10, 1949 – June 16, 2014

It is with heavy hearts that we say good bye to our beloved Michael Arthur Yagjian, who passed into his peaceful and permanent sleep at his home in La Canada Flintridge, California on June 16, 2014. Mike was born on May 10, 1949 in Lynn, Massachusetts and graduated from Saugus High School in Saugus, Massachusetts in 1966. He attended the University of Southern California where he received a Bachelor's Degree with honors in Political Science in 1970 and a Juris Doctorate degree in 1973 before being admitted to the California Bar. He was a member and president of the TKE Fraternity at USC and also served on the USC Student Court as an Associate Justice.

In 1971, while in Law School, Mike co-founded The Substation, subsequently expanded it to two additional locations and in the early 1980's co-founded Gourmets Fresh Pasta, a food processing company that pioneered large scale production and delivery of fresh pasta, nationally and internationally. As President and Chairman of the Board, he continued to expand the variety of products and impact of his firm until forced by illness to retire in January, 2014. In addition to his membership in many professional and social organizations, including the California Bar Association, the California Restaurant Association, the Institute of Food Technologists, MENSA and Annandale Golf Club, Mike served on the Board of Directors for Community Counseling Services.

Mike was a life-long Red Sox fan and an avid golfer. He traveled to all corners of the world, read voraciously, and loved to engage others in political discussion. He was extremely intelligent with a quick wit, knowledgeable, hard-working, loyal, loving, and funny. He excelled in all that he did. He battled his cancer with the same honesty and directness that characterized his life: with dignity, determination, and full knowledge of those qualities most important to him.

Mike is predeceased by his father, Johnny Yagjian. He is survived by his mother, Cora M. Yagjian, and his wife, Anita P. Yagjian, his uncle, Vartan Mekalian, his cousins, Margaret Mekalian and her partner, Danny Gill; Chris Mekalian and his wife, Nicka; Suzie Mekalian and her children; Gail Sheehan and her partner, Adeleke Atewologun; Lisa Sheehan; Christine Bonet and her children; and Susan Tully and her family; his mother-in-law, Maria Paleologos; his brothers-in-law, Nicholas Paleologos and his partner, Michael Scharlau; Harry Paleologos and his partner, Danielle Dixon; and Dean Paleologos, and the Konstantopoulos Family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 11:00 am at Cabot & Sons, 27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena, CA 91103. It was his wish that, in lieu of flowers or donations, a kindness be extended to a friend.
