Eugene E. "Gene" Custer, 81, of Massillon, passed away quietly. A son to the late Erle L. and Helen M. (Sprinkle) Custer, Gene graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1950, and began undergraduate studies at Kent State University, receiving his degree in Business Administration from The University of Colorado Boulder and completing his MBA at Stanford University. Following service in the US Army, Gene embarked on a 35-year career as a human resource professional with corporations that included Bekins Van Lines, Inc., Capital Group, Hughes Aircraft Co., Wadsworth Laboratory of Ohio. He also taught for several years at UCLA and Cal Tech. Predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jack Custer; Gene is survived by his children, Katharine (Chris) Schutza, of Phoenix, AZ, Brian (Theresa) Custer, of Creston, CA and Greg (Inger) Custer, of Burbank, CA. There are also seven grandchildren.
