Harry Fox Hopper, Jr., was born on March 26, 1921 in Pasadena, California, where he graduated from The
Polytechnic School and later Catalina Boys School. He interrupted his matriculation at Dartmouth College to volunteer for the American Field Service before the U. S. entered WWII and served to support the British army in the Middle-East and North Africa. Mr. Hopper returned to the United States and served as a Navy Corpsman, instructor to the Marines. Following graduation from Dartmouth College, he attended the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Speaking fluent Arabic, he started his 40-year career in the Middle-East in 1950 as a Commercial Attaché with the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After the State Department, he worked at ARAMCO, Trans-Arabian Pipeline, and as a manufacturers' representative, in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Jordan. Harry Hopper passed away on June 17, 2013 and is survived by: his wife Adriana Fucile Hopper of Chevy Chase, Maryland; his children, Nataly Hopper Berckmann of Grand Haven, Michigan; Harry F. Hopper III of Alexandria, Virginia; Edmund J. Hopper of Hilton Head, South Carolina; Laurence F. Hopper of Bologna, Italy; and Albert F. Hopper of Washington, DC. Mr. Hopper is also survived by his sister Jane H. Ware of Richmond, Virginia, 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be held at Mountain View Cemetary, Altadina at 11:00am August 10th. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Save the Bay.
