November 22nd, 1929 - December 22nd, 2013
Jo Ann Mitchell Taylor passed away in her sleep December 22nd in Alhambra, California, survived by sons John and Nick and granddaughters Audrey and Josephine. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her - an elegant lady of distinction, decorum and disarming social diplomacy. She was smart, funny and glamorous. Born in Sedalia, Missouri, raised in Kansas City, its environs, and Milwaukee, she
graduated from University of Wisconsin at Madison. She taught school briefly, married and built a large circle of close friends in Chicago's North Shore, living in Kenilworth and Winnetka, before settling in Pasadena, CA in 1968. With husband Stan, who passed away in 2010, she hosted memorable parties and gatherings in both Winnetka and Pasadena. She was an art aficionado with a keen sense of interior decoration and design that she consistently downplayed, despite wide acknowledgement (and the high standards of her milieu). She was a docent at the Art Institute of Chicago and later the Pasadena Art Museum, when it was primarily a contemporary art venue, nurturing a lifelong interest. She also developed many close friends working with the Pasadena Art Alliance. She came to love many of the people she met along the way, adding to a remarkable list of dear friends. Funeral arrangements have yet to be made. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pasadena Art Alliance or to other charities of your choice are greatly appreciated.
