JOHN PETER LABOVSKY

Age 62, moved into his home in heaven on March 8, 2014. He passed away very peacefully with his family by his side. John is survived by his wife, Dorothy Labovsky; his daughter, Catie Labovsky (Joshua); his sister, Kathy Johnson; his aunt, Mirjana Trbuhovich; his stepsons, Daniel Maples (Tonia) and Jared Maples; granddaughter, Marley Gutierrez; and grandson, Ryan Maples. He was a devoted uncle and more like a father to Melissa Bauer (Brian), Julia Pearson (Carl), Nicholas Johnson, and Ashley Blum. He adored all his great nieces and nephews: Hannah, David, Ava and Nathan Bauer, Hailey and Kendall Pearson, and Alex and Ayden Blum.

John Peter Labovsky was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 7, 1951, to the late Peter and Zdravka Labovsky. He and his sister, Kathy grew up in Wood Dale, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He received his Bachelor's degree in Education from Southern Illinois University. He received his Master's Degree in Special Education from California State University Northridge. John was a gifted teacher, teaching for Leonis High School in Woodland Hills, CA for over 29 years. He helped many students receive their high school diplomas. John was also a professor at CSUN in the Department of Special Education for many years. John was such a loving person, especially devoted to his family, his students and his friends. He is well known for his sense of humor, his generosity and his intense love of animals, especially Trip. John will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate John's life on Monday, March 24th, 11:00 a.m., at The Church on The Way Santa Clarita, 23415 Cinema Dr., Valencia, CA. A lunch reception will be held after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Best Friends Animal Society in Mission Hills.
