John W. "Jack" Shainline

(91), known to his friends in Pennsylvania as "Spike", died peacefully in Lakewood, CO on November 29, 2013. Born in Norristown PA on June 20th, 1922, Jack graduated from Norristown High School in 1940 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1978. After serving in WWII as a Marine he graduated from Gettysburg College in 1948. Following his college graduation, he worked as a football and wrestling coach at Gettysburg College before taking on administrative responsibilities. Gettysburg College awarded him an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree in 1989. In 1966 he moved to CA where he met his loving and devoted wife, Connie, and completed a long and successful career as a Dean and later Vice President at California State University Long Beach. Following his retirement from CSULB, Jack worked as a field representative for U.S. Congressman Steve Horn. Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Laird; his parents, Thomas Shainline and Mary Halloway Shainline; his daughter, Beth; his sister, Kathryn Ellis; his wife, Connie Shainline; and his first wife, Anna Lois Heim Shainline. He is survived by three children from his first marriage, Leslie Woldenberg (married to Lee Woldenberg), Michael Shainline (married to Leslie Shainline), Jan Goetz (married to James Goetz), and two step children Dennis Brando and Craig Brandau (married to Cali Rose). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Alison Reid, Matthew Woldenberg, Jeffrey Shainline, Sam Woldenberg, Erin Goetz, Lukas Perry, and Kelsey Goetz; and two great grandchildren, Ainsley Margaret Reid and Elliot Elizabeth Reid.
