Mary Jacobi Obituary
MARY F. JACOBI

Age, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, in Tarzana. She was born on December, 2, 1920, in Buffalo, New York. Mary was a long time resident of Chatsworth, California where she made her home for the last 40 years.

Mary loved her country; she joined the war effort during World War II by enlisting in the United States Navy Coast Guard and was stationed in Florida. After the war, in 1946, she was honorably discharged to Santa Ana, California. Mary entered the Woodbury College in Los Angeles and earned a fashion design degree. She was offered a job with Edith Head, then the chief designer for Hollywood and the stars. She gave up her career to get married and have a family.

Divorced in 1964, Mary raised her three children and became involved with her Catholic faith. She was a member of both Bible Study and Ladies Clubs. Her passion for art continued through the years as she continued art classes in oil painting. The family benefited as everyone has one of Mary's beautiful paintings in their homes.

Mary was a great Italian cook and wonderful baker. She always had homemade cookies for church functions, birthdays, and celebrations. Mary always rewarded people that helped her with a batch of her cookies. Besides cooking, she was prolific in crocheting. From baby Baptismal gowns to shawls to personal blankets. Mary also knew her way around a sewing machine and made many garments for her daughter and herself.

She was very proud of her children, but Mary was most proud of her two grandchildren. She saved every card, picture and drawing from them and had very special smiles for her new great-granddaughter, Ellie. Mary is survived by her daughter, Donnasue Roessler and husband Fred; sons, Robert Jacobi and wife Jane, and John Jacobi; two grandchildren, Derek Jacobi and wife Katie, and Lacey Chasseur and husband Stephen; and great granddaughter, Ellie. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will take place at Gates, Kingsley and Gates Praiswater Mortuary, 6909 Canoga Ave., Canoga Park, CA on Thursday, March 20, 2014, beginning at 4:00 p.m., followed by the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at St. John Eudes Church, 9901 Mason Ave., Chatsworth, CA, with burial to follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Ave., Mission Hills CA.
