Matthew WM Parrish II went to be with the Lord February 6, 2013, with his loving wife JoHana at his side. Born December 14, 1933 in Oklahoma City, OK he moved to Long Beach in 1942. He resided for 40 years in Long Beach. He met his first wife, Shirley De La Claire, at a church beach party. They graduated from Jordan High in 1952. Matt joined the Long Beach Police Dept. July 1957 and retired as a sergeant September 1987. He also worked as a truck driver for the Long Beach Press-Telegram from 1961 to 1978. An avid fisherman, camper, hunter and gold prospector he belonged to many organizations. The Long Beach Rod and Gun Club, West End Prospectors, Riverside Treasure Hunters, and Public Lands for the People were among those her was most active. He was preceded in death by Shirley on May 25, 1973. Thus began the second portion of his adventures when he married JoHana in 1984. They both shared a love of gardening, the outdoors and traveling in their motorhome. They moved to Norco, CA to be able to garden and raise animals. Matt returned to the L.B.P.D part-time and retired a second time in 2008 after serving the city for 50 years. Then JoHana and Matt traveled until June 2011 when his health made it difficult. Their last trip was a 14 day cruise to Hawaii for Valentine's Day 2011. Matt is survived by wife, JoHana; his sons, Dana and Michael; daughter, Vickie Willis of El Cajon, Christina and son-in-law, Eric Mize of Bellflower, CA; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Many friends and extended family. Pastor Ryan Crowley of The Gathering Church Corona will officiate the celebration of his life. Service is Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hillside Chapel (Gate 17) at Rose Hills in Whittier at 3888 Workman Mill Rd., Whittier, CA 90601, (562) 699-0921.
