Patricia Lee Twining
Mrs. Twining, 79, was active in
the Long Beach community
Patricia Lee Twining, a consummate homemaker and caring mother and grandmother, died Tuesday at home following a yearlong battle with brain cancer.
Mrs. Twining, of Lake Oswego, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed peacefully. It was her greatest pleasure to spend time with family, bringing everyone together across the miles for holidays, celebrations and travel many times each year. She even made the move to Lake Oswego four years ago from Southern California to be closer to her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
Mrs. Twining was born in Bakersfield, Calif., and raised in Fresno where she completed high school and attended classes at the University of California, Berkeley, before meeting her husband, Edward M. Twining. They were married in 1954. The couple enjoyed musicals and symphonies, L.A.-Dodger and Laker games, and traveling to Europe, Asia and Australia. Their most cherished destinations included the Fjords, in Norway, and the Cotswolds, in England. But both enjoyed traveling to the Hawaiian Islands the most, where they lived for several years until Mr. Twining passed in 2000. Their affinity for the islands grew out of its culture and music.
Volunteering in the community was a passion for Mrs. Twining. She found reward in serving patients and their families at Straub Hospital, in Honolulu, and Legacy Meridian Park, in Tualatin. She was a member of the Nightingales and the Rick Rackers Assistance League of Long Beach. She also kept active playing bridge and completing the Sunday New York Times crossword each week.
Mrs. Twining is survived by her sister, Nancy Rodney of Alburqueque; three children, Nancy Weinberger of Las Vegas, Edward Twining of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Christopher Twining of Wildomar, Calif.; and two step-children, Debbie Eliff and Craig Lawrie. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jennifer Dale and Seth Dershewitz of Portland, Ore., Lesley Weinberger of Los Angeles, Jamey Sussman of Agoura Hills, Calif., Shannon, Nick, Max and Jake Twining of Huntington Beach, and Samantha Twining of Wildomar; and two great-granddaughters, Madeleine and Elizabeth Dale of Portland.
Memorial services will be held at 11am, November 30 at Young's Funeral Home, 11831 Southwest Pacific Highway, Tigard, Ore. Additional services will be held in Huntington Beach, Calif., on December 16. Please sign the guest book at www.presstelegram.com/obituaries.
