Robert Tryon Obituary

In Loving Memory of ROBERT E. TRYON JEAN C. TRYON Passed away this year after a long, wonderful life together. Robert was born & raised in Los Angeles. He attended USC until he was asked to serve in the Army, at GHQ, South Pacific Theater, during WWII. Jean was born in Lindsay, Okla. and raised in Paul's Valley, Okla., until she traveled to Southern California to attend the Chouinard Art Institute. While attending a class at USC, she tripped over a pair of saddle shoes and met the love of her life, Robert. They were married for 67 years and raised their children Patricia (Martin Stevens), Michael (Donna), and Peter (Valerie). They spent 59 years in South Pasadena, where Robert designed the only house they owned & in which they raised their children. Robert practiced architecture for over 60 years, including 45 years in private practice. He loved designing projects for his clients and making enduring friendships. In many of his houses he included personal touches which he and Jean designed, made and installed. He was a long standing member of the AIA, and rose to president of the Pasadena & Foothill chapter, AIA, in 1961. He was also a member of the University Club, Oneonta Club, Boy Scouts, Pasadena & Foothill Photo Club, and the Valley Hunt Club. He was active in South Pasadena city life as a member of the Planning Commission, Advisory boards, Friends of the Library, and South Pasadena Beautiful organization. Jean was an artist who assisted Robert in the designs of many of his projects. She was a docent at the Gamble house, Pasadena Symphony, Asia Pacific Museum, & Pasadena Art Museum. They have six grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren. They are loved and will be terribly missed.
