Giles Ronald (Ron) Munsey, born May 1921 in Alhambra, CA to Vernol and Madeline Munsey, passed away peacefully January 14, 2014 after a short illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine McDermott Munsey of Pasadena, CA, children Joel Munsey of Cantil, CA, David Plenn (Shelley
Stephens) of South Pasadena, CA, Sheila Munsey of Creedmoor, N.C., Sally Howell (John) of Pasadena, CA, and Lauren Stephens (Jamie) of Lopez Island, WA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren.
Ron spent his early years visiting his grandmother and uncles at the family homestead in the Mojave Desert. He was an Eagle Scout who worked as a camp counselor at Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island. He graduated in 1939 from Alhambra High School, and served as a Captain in the US Army during WWII. He graduated after the war from USC and worked for US Borax and Chemical Company until retirement. He loved music and played saxophone and clarinet in a dance band as a young man, and after retirement spent many happy hours at the piano. Friends and family enjoyed his dry wit and remarkable memory. At Ron's request, there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name can be made to Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy, PO Box 3, Altadena, CA 91003.
