Stephanie Hamlin Patterson
October 3, 1944 - March 5, 2014

Stephanie Hamlin Patterson, 69, of San Marino, CA, passed away peacefully at her home on March 5, 2014, after a several month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on October 3, 1944, in Santa Rosa, CA, Stephanie was the oldest of two daughters of Ross Earl Hamlin, Jr., and Elaine Hattie Hamlin. She grew up in Palo Alto, CA, and graduated from high school there in 1962. She attended college at UC Berkeley, obtaining a B.A. in 1966 and a teaching credential in 1967, and immediately following college she taught for two years at Corona Del Mar High School. In December 1968, she married Dr. Charles W. Patterson, a resident physician at LAC+USC Medical Center, and after their marriage she taught for two years at South Pasadena Junior High School. In 1971, she and her husband moved to Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls, Montana, in order to complete his military obligation. In 1973, they moved to San Marino, California, where they have lived ever since. Stephanie and her husband, whose marriage was blessed with two sons, Duncan and Trevor, celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary in December, 2013.

About twenty five years ago she left teaching to pursue a career as a realtor, beginning with Hitchcock-Elkins Realty in San Marino and ending with Sotheby's International Realty in Pasadena. She loved her work as in real estate, especially the last five years spent partnering with her son, Trevor.

In addition to leaving a grieving husband and two sons, she leaves behind seven brother and sister-in-laws and their spouses, eight nephews and nieces, three cousins, and a multitude of friends. Stephanie enjoyed great and long-lasting friendships wherever she lived or worked. She was a lovely, smart, gracious, and kind woman whose upbeat and friendly nature endeared her to many. She enjoyed great respect from those who knew her, and her loss will be deeply felt.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center Fund or the USC Dean's Medical Scholarship Fund (giveto.usc.edu) or to a charitable organization. At her request, no funeral service is planned, but a Celebration of Life Event will be held in her honor at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 29th, at the San Gabriel Country Club in San Gabriel. Cabot & Sons, Pasadena.
