Born Vera Ruth Willets, in The Bronx, New York, to Albert and Anna Willets. Her decade's long career in the retail grocery industry began in 1942. In the early 1950's she journeyed cross-country to California with her best friend Dorothy Helms. There she met her future boytoy-to-be, former Marine Staff Sgt. Thomas Reyes. They wed on August 28, 1955 in Santa Monica, California. In November of 1966, they moved to Oak Park. She loved to travel, and one of her greatest joys was when she and Thomas visited her ancestor's homeland, Ireland. The last decade saw Vera visited by medical issues that may have curtailed the wanderlust, but never bowed her spirit. In January of this year, she suffered a brain trauma, which led to a respiratory illness. She passed peacefully on Sunday, February 24th at Kaiser Memorial Hospital in Woodland Hills, CA.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Doriann; and is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; and her children, Mark, Melanie and Amy; as well as her grandchildren, Danielle, Heather, and Collyn.
A memorial service will be held at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, Friday, March 1st, 10:00 a.m. Donations may be made in her name to: The Young Artists Ensemble @ www.yaeonline.com .
