Obituary Condolences

- COOPER- Juanita Cooper of McGregor, formerly of El Monte, California, died early Friday morning, May 13, 2011, at the age of 93. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 27, 2011 at the Hillside Chapel, Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, Whittier, California with interment following. Reverend Mamie Ko officiated. Family and friends gathered in McGregor, Texas for services celebrating the life of Juanita Cooper on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at College Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend David Thompson officiating. Mrs. Cooper was born October 16, 1917 in McGregor, Texas, the daughter of the late Horace Calvin and Cora Lee (Tubbs) Renfro. She began her education at South Bosque where she excelled in basketball, scoring 92 points in a game with an average of 48.3 points per game. She was also a member of three McLennan County championship teams. She completed her senior year at McGregor High School, graduating in 1935. On July 29, 1937, she married Gilbert Adams Cooper in McGregor. After fifty-seven years of marriage, he preceded her in death April 13, 1995. In 1938 she and Gilbert moved to El Monte, California where she made her home. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Church in Monterey Park, CA before returning to Crawford, Texas in 2005. She divided her time between Texas and California living with both her sons. Throughout her life, she enjoyed crocheting and playing card games, especially Hollywood Runny and was an avid fan of the LA Lakers Basketball Team. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Harrell, Hubert, Edwin, Hardy Renfro, two sisters Gladys Wheat and Rosa Lee Crain. Survivors include two sons, John Cooper of Carwford, Texas; Gary Cooper and wife Carlene of Indio, California; a grandson, Kevin Cooper (Allison) and granddaughter, Kristin Wullschleger (Rick); three great grandchildren, Reese Cooper, Nathan Cooper and Adam Wullschleger.
