Twenty-five year Yucaipa resident Charlotte Burk was born in Reydon, Oklahoma. One of seven children, Char was a precocious tomboy, always keeping up with her brothers. Char married William Burk and moved to California in 1938. An aunt, grand- mother and great grandmother who stepped in to love and help her family throughout their lives, Char was more like a mother to all, sharing her patience, self confidence and understanding.
Char stood by her beliefs, and never judged the human condition. Her loves included New Zealand, dancing, family, and sweets. She was gifted at making everyone feel loved and special, and was well read on politics and current events. Her sharp memory served to recount detailed family history and humorous stories for us to treasure and pass along to future generations.
Upon her husband's passing in 1964, Char worked as a bookkeeper in Los Angeles. She was a wonderful, independent role model, filling voids others left while empowering us to be all we can. Char is survived by three granddaughters Nannette Cook, Lisa Quigley, April Bushong, and three great-grandchildren of CA, siblings Bennie Gillespie of NM and Floretta Miller of TX, and four nieces and four nephews.
In keeping with Char's adamant wishes, there will be no service, but instead, a celebration closer to summertime to scatter her ashes at sea.
