Warren Herbert Helgeson Obituary
HELGESON, Warren Herbert

Warren Herbert Helgeson, affectionately known by all as "Swede", passed away peacefully Sunday morning
November 10, 2013 at his home in South Pasadena, CA. He was 88.
Born December 31, 1924, in Pasadena, California, to Anna and Lars Helgeson, Swede served in World War II and was especially proud, though silent, of flying over 125 combat missions in P-47's and P-51's in the Pacific, ranging from New Guinea, the Philippines, Okinawa, Japan and China. He then served in the Korean War. It was at this time he met his wife to-be, Barbara, and became part of the Thorn family.
In 1960, Swede earned his doctorate degree in dental surgery from the USC School of Dentistry. For nearly 40 years, he was in private practice as an accomplished pediatric dentist and he belonged to several professional groups.
He was a former member of the University Club of Pasadena. A mediocre, though avid golfer, he was a member of San Gabriel Country Club and a charter member of La Canada Country Club. Swede had a love for skiing and was a talented snow and water skier.
Swede will be especially remembered for his quick wit, extensive range of knowledge and talents, as well as for the tenaciousness that allowed him to achieve top rankings in many diverse endeavors. He lived his life with kindness, generosity, integrity and bravery.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; nieces Michele McKinley of Arcadia, Kathryn Montejano of Three Rivers and a nephew, Matthew Thorn of Nicolaus, CA. Swede will also be greatly missed by 8 grandnieces/nephews, 8 great-grandnieces/nephews and 1 much-beloved furry little great-grandniece, Mia (daughter of grandniece, Jennifer Hageman).
Warren H. Helgeson flew off into the sunlit sky, a peaceful way he thought to die.
Friends and relatives are welcome at an informal reception at San Gabriel Country Club on November 23, 2013 at 1:00 PM, following a private family inurnment at Forest Lawn, Glendale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, 1343 North Grand Avenue, Suite 100, Covina, CA 91724 (www.vitascommunityconnection.org) or to the Convalescent Aid Society, 3255 East Foothill Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107 (www.cas1.org).
