Claire Sylva Broyles

CLAIRE SYLVA BROYLES Passed away peacefully on December 10, 2011 in 29 Palms, California at the age of 96. Mrs. Broyles was born in Pierre, South Dakota on August 26, 1915. After attending the University of Nebraska in Omaha she moved to Los Angeles where she married William S. Broyles to whom she was married for 60 Years. She was predeceased by her husband and is survived by her brother, Gerald Sylva, of Ft. Pierre, SD; her son, Jerry Broyles of Yucca Valley, CA and her daughter, Cindy Valentine of Pt. Richmond, CA. In 1962 she was the second employee hired when Mt. San Jacinto College was founded and was the assistant to the president until she retired at the age of 80 after which she served on the board of the Mt. San Jacinto College Foundation. After surviving a horrendous auto collision with a train at the age 83, she was horrified that the newspapers published her age. She was active in many community organizations and president of most at some point including Girl Scouts and the Beaumont High School Band Boosters, Cherry Valley 15, the Banning Flying Club, the Beaumont Historical Society, the Gilman Ranch Hands, the Beaumont Women's Club, the Mt. San Jacinto College Foundation, and was a member of the Beaumont Presbyterian Church. A celebration of her life will be held at the Beaumont Presbyterian Church at 11 AM on Saturday, January 14. It is requested that remembrances be sent to the Mt. San Jacinto College Foundation.
