CONNIE VARGAS Age 94, went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2012. Connie was born in Corona in 1918 and died of natural causes peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Connie was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandma and great grandma. She was a devout Christian and whole-heartedly loved the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfonso Vargas, her sister Estefania Quintero, her brother Raymond Gonzales, and her mother and father, Remedios and Macedonio Gonzales. Connie was a fighter and when was told "you can't" she said "I can and did". Connie was a gifted seamstress and made clothes not only for her children and grandchildren but other family and friends also. Connie was a phenomenal cook and had a talent for embroidery, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed road trips, visiting her family in San Diego and northern California. Connie's family came to Corona in 1916 and her father helped to shape the Grand Blvd Racetrack and in building the new St. Edwards church, which later, she and her husband became the first couple to be married there. Connie loved to tell her family stories about old Corona and the way things used to be. Connie is survived by her sister, Gloria Garcia; her children Joan Del Villar (Joseph), Raymond, Mary and Bobby Vargas; her grandchildren Raymond Jr, Jessica Macias (Joe), Robert Jr., Stephanie, Ronnie and Eric Vargas; her great-grandchildren Christian Vargas, Jillian, Jo Jo, Josiah and Jiselle Macias and Leah Del Villar. She saw her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as the gems of her life. Visitation is scheduled from 9am to 9:30am Rosary at 9:30am and mass at 10:00 am, all at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 417 W. Grand Blvd. Corona, CA 92882 on Monday, November 19, 2012.
