Dwayne J. Baker(1927 - 2013)

DWAYNE J. BAKER Born August 8, 1927 Died October 5, 2013 We mourn the passing of our beloved father, grandfather & great-grandfather, and devoted husband of Ruth, his wife of 57 years. Born to Henry & Marcella Parker, yet soon orphaned, he was raised by his grandmother, Catherine Baker Krier. Dwayne grew up on an old-fashioned family farm in Denison, Iowa. Among his favorite pastimes was telling stories of life on the farm "milking cows, feeding pigs, gathering eggs from the chicken coop." One of the best tales was of how he and friends hoisted the neighbor's car on top of the barn roof. A boyhood prank, true, yet met with laughter by all. Dwayne received his high school diploma from the one-room school house he attended near the farm. From 1943 to 1946 he proudly served his country in WWII, earning the good conduct medal for courageous service in the Pacific. He went on to work as a heavy equipment & large crane operator for the city of Los Angeles DWP. Dwayne retired in 1991 with his wife to Sun City. After traveling the country, he became an active volunteer with Crime Watch, a program very close to his heart. He had many friends, even the 4-legged kind, since they all knew he carried treats in his pockets on his daily morning walks in the neighborhood. Always available to his neighbors, Dwayne knew how to fix just about anything. Whenever asked about his hobbies, Dwayne proudly replied, "My family my wife and 6 kids, grandkids and great grandkids" all of whom survive him. He was strong, brave, loving, interesting, practical, knowledgeable and had bright blue eyes which met your own when talking with him. Memorial service is Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, 2 pm at Evans Brown Mortuary, Menifee. (951-679-1114). Private burial to be held Monday, Nov. 4th, Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego. www.evans-brownmortuary.com/obituaries
