Fred R. Mallen

FRED R. MALLEN Age 88, of Moreno Valley, CA, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, in Moreno Valley, CA. He was born on Saturday, July 19, 1924 in Chicago, IL to the late Frederick Mallen and late Rose Mallen. He was a World War II veteran (Sgt), 707th Tank Battalion, MIA, POW and a recipient of 2 purple hearts. He was a lifetime member of disabled veteran's, contributor to the WWII Memorial. Fred was the President of the Lions Club, member of Braille Community, President of Squires and Quarter master of the Velvet Knight Drum and Bugles Corp. He married Betty Jane Grizzle, January 5, 1946 and began the family of 4 children in the Chicago area where he had a mason contracting business. The family relocated to California in September of 1962. Betty and Fred owned Betty Jane's Curiousity Shops that they operated for over 25 years. They were long time members of the Shepard of the Valley Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Rose Mallen; wife of 57 years Betty Jane. Those left to cherish his memories are children, Carol Morrissey (Paul), Holly Reese (Chuck) Judy Wilson, Darryl Mallen (Deborah); sister, Rosemary Lockwood; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grand-children; 1 great-great-grandchildren and a special friend, Patricia Reardon. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Cystic Fibrosis foundation on behalf of Ashley Mallen. Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Jones Moreno Valley Mortuary, 23618 Sunnymead Blvd., Moreno Valley, CA. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.
