GERALD (GERRY) LEE DAVIS Age 88, of Temecula, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013. My grandpa was born on March 6, 1925, in Grand Island, Nebraska to the late Lee and Lena Davis. He moved to California when he was 10 years old and later graduated from Washington High School in 1942. He left high school early and joined the Navy when he was 17 and sailed aboard the U.S.S. Montpelier until the end of the War. He married my grandma, Jean Brooks, in 1947 and lived happily with her for the next 66 years. He left college after three years in 1949 to begin a career with GTE (now Verizon) as a lineman. He would stay with that company for the next 36 years and retire as a district manager. During his time as a district manager, he was also on the Board of Directors for the Hemet Kiwanis, the president of the Hemet United Way, vice-president of the Hemet Chamber of Commerce, member of the Lions Club, and a member of the Transportation Committee for Hemet. After his retirement he was very active in the Hemet American Legion and Honor Guard. My grandpa Gerry will be sadly missed and never forgotten. No one will ever forget his happy and contagious grin, and his infinite number of quick-witted, dry one-liners. He had a great laugh, and he never had trouble bringing out the same in others. More than any of his accomplishments, grandpa will mostly be remembered as a loving member of my family; a devoted husband, father, brother, son, father-in-law, grandpa, and great-grandpa. I am honored to have known Gerry Davis and even more so to have been able to call him my grandpa. Services will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518 on Thursday, May 30th @ 1:45 pm.
