JOHN DRUMMEY Died peacefully at 85 on 8/26/13. He & his wife Peg shared 55 yrs. of travel & adventure. He leaves 4 children: Diana, Cyndy, Kate, Thomas & 10 grandkids. Raised in Yonkers, he joined the Navy in '45, served on USS Intrepid & Randolph. Assigned to PCS 883 in Panama, he made 47 canal crossings during the Korean War
. He studied at Milwaukee School of Eng. and LSU, and later entered the Navy's Nuclear Power Program, training in CA, Idaho & NY. He served aboard the USS Long Beach. In '64 he was part of Operation Sea Orbit (3 Nuclear Surface ships: Enterprise, Bainbridge & Long Beach), which left the Mediterranean in Aug. '64, made port in Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand & Brazil, returning to Norfolk, VA in Oct '64 w/o ever taking on provisions or fuel. Jack made Warrant Officer in '65, assigned to USS Aludra and retired as CWO in '69 to San Diego. He got a degree in Industrial Eng. and retired from GD/Electronics in '88. Jack & Peg roamed the U.S., Canada & Alaska for 7 years in an RV, then settled in Menifee in '95. He volunteered at OERM in Perris restoring old street cars. He loved the annual visit of Thomas the Tank Engine that brought hundreds of kids to visit. He was a life member of the Cruiser Sailors Assn. & Temecula Valley Elks. Services will be 9/21/13 2PM at the Palmilla Clubhouse, Palm Villa Dr., at Fernleaf in Menifee.
