JANET ANN PERCY (HAWLEY) Janet passed away Thursday, February 28th at her warm, comfortable home in Sun Lakes Country Club, Banning. She died of complications from COPD. She was the daughter of DeForest Oakland Hawley and Elsie Emma Bergmann. Janet was born in Lemmon, S.D. October 1, 1934. Jan and her father moved from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Grand Terrace, California in the summer of 1949 and she enrolled as a sophomore at Colton Union High School. Jan and husband-to-be Bob Percy met soon after school started in September of 1949. Bob was a year ahead of Jan in school. Janet quickly became very popular with the boys and equally popular with the girls. She was smart, immaculate, warm and friendly. She had a smile that made those around her become friendlier and more cheerful. Janet was a good student and an active member of the school paper and yearbook staff. She graduated with honors and was a member of Quill and Scroll honors society. She was chosen as the Homecoming Queen her senior year. The homecoming queen and her captain of the football team married in March of 1953. Together they endured the army life for two years, college for four years and dental school for four years. Janet helped manage the dental practice in San Bernardino for 32 years in addition to managing their home in Highland and nurturing four children. Jan was a second Mom to many of her children's friends. Always thinking of others, she never failed keeping all her kids and their kid-pals from getting hungry. No one greeted her or left her without a warm loving hug. She served as an inspiration to others as to how to be a good provider and take care of others first. Our hearts are filled with all the love, joy and memories that she gave so unselfishly. Her light will forever shine with us, through us, and upon us. She will be missed but never forgotten. Anyone having the opportunity to know her was blessed by her loving and caring way of life. When asked about special achievements in her life her response was always, "my family!" They, the survivors, are: Spouse, Dr. Bob Percy of Sun Lakes Country Club, Banning; children, Gerald Keith of San Francisco; Kenneth Wayne and wife Shandra of Temecula; Charles Robert of Carbondale, Colorado; Cathie Dee and husband DuWayne Olson of Redlands; grandsons Jordan William and girlfriend Jackie of Encinitas; Keith Robert of Prescott Arizona; Taylor Lee and wife Janessa and their two daughters Jayden and Aubree of Murrieta. The family wishes to express our special thanks to friends Shirley Fisher, Marty Breyer, Sally Lewis and sister Louise Doyle for their assisted caring hands over the last five years. They prove that there are Angels living on this earth. There will be a celebration of life service Monday, March 11, 2:00 P.M. at The National Orange Show Events Center, Empire Room. Enter Gate #8 or #9 on Arrowhead Ave. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to San Bernardino Valley College Foundation for Janet Ann Percy memorial scholarship.
