John Charles Beers

JOHN CHARLES BEERS John Beers of Hemet passed away at Riverside Community Hospital on May 22, 2013 after a short illness. He was 68. John was born to Thomas and Gwendolyn Gibson Beers on October 23, 1944 in Missoula, Montana. He graduated from Loyola High School in Missoula and attended the University of Montana where he met and married Brenda Roberts in 1965. John was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and retired from the Wall Street Journal in 2007 after a 30-year career. John believed in giving back to his community as a Donate Life Ambassador, Flotilla Commander in the U.S.C.G. Auxiliary and a long time volunteer for the Riverside Dickens Festival. He had also served as the area director for Special Olympics. John was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Gwen Beers; sisters, Barbara Voth and Beverly Zachariason; and brother, James. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; sons, Brian (Elizabeth), Kadena AFB, Chris, Long Beach, and Gary, Ontario; brother, Tom (Brenda), Missoula, MT; sisters, Kate Deeds (Jimmie), Missoula, MT and Mary Shelley (Trevert), Spokane, WA and granddaughters, Breanna and Blakeley Beers, Kadena AFB. The celebration of John's life will be May 29, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Preston-Simons Mortuary, 3359 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John's name to OneLegacy Foundation, 221 S. Figueroa, Suite 500, Los Angeles, CA 90012 or the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Foundation, P. Carlson, 4081 Taos Dr., San Diego, CA 92117.
