JOSEPH C BERNARD 8/13/31-2/24/13 81, died Sunday, Feburary 24, 2013 At Victoria Convalescent in Ventura, Ca. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Delores Bernard, Lisa Bernard; his daughter, Steven Bernard; his son, Janet Wilkinson; his sister, Jack Bernard; Brother; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Son David, deceased 2000. Born in Framingham, Mass., the son of Anne and Joseph Bernard, met wife Delores in high school, graduated, married and moved to California in 1952. Mr. Bernard would join the California Highway Patrol in Baldwin Park in 1957. He was a part of a motorcycle brigade for Governor Reagan during the Watts Riots. He later served as a Sergeant of the San Gorgonio Station in Banning, Ca., and would retire as a lieutenant in 1987. He patrolled the Idyllwild mountain and 10 fwy from Beaumont to Palm Springs for nearly 20 years in the region. Bernard was a resident of Hemet from 1967- 2004. He was a member of the Elks lodge
, formed a metal detector club; The Highlanders, panned for gold, star gazed and read science fiction. In his fifties, he ran marathons and helped organize 10k runs in Hemet. He was renowned for his letters to the editor and concerned about overpopulation issues. A Humanist, Bernard was director of the Imagine a World of Wanted Children publication and editor of several related publications. Arrangements for services by Neptune society pending.
