MR. LEWIS S. NEEB P.E., FNSPE, DMCSPE At the age of 78, Mr. Lewis S. Neeb on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 passed away. Lewis S. Neeb P.E., FNSPE, DMCSPE was born in Phoenix, Ariz., on May 26, 1934. Neeb was raised in Tempe, Ariz., which was, at that time, a small rural area comprised of around 4,000 people. He was raised by his mother, an elementary and secondary school teacher and an Executive Secretary of the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Architects, and his father, who was a college professor, PhD., and Dean of the Industrial Arts Department at Arizona State University
(ASU). In his academic life, Neeb was active in music, playing piano and the trumpet, manual arts and Scouts. Neeb refused a small music scholarship to college due to his job as a carpenter's apprentice. For 11 years, from the time Neeb was 14, he continued to work in the carpentry trade. Neeb studied at ASU Tempe and the University of Arizona, where in 1959, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Neeb held more than 300 semester hours of university credits in subjects such as management, business and environmental engineering from ASU, U of A, University of California (UC) Long Beach, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, UCLA
and San Bernardino Valley College, to name a few. Mr. Neeb held a license to practice both Professional Civil Engineering and Land Surveying in California and Arizona, and was also a general engineering and building contractor (A&B) and a Safety Engineer in California. Neeb assisted in the creation of the design of the water system for Sun City, Ariz., and a stint as resident engineer for large water and sewer works in Flagstaff and Douglas, Ariz., and also worked for 33 years with the County of San Bernardino. Throughout his life, Neeb held many leadership positions for the California Society of Professional Engineers (CSPE) and the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), along with positions in the City of Grand Terrace Citizens on Patrol (COP) and has worked with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Academy. Neeb was also a founding member of the local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT); a lifetime member of the San Bernardino Shrine Club (SBSC) and the Elks Lodge
, CSPE, NSPE, Al Malaikah Shriners, Thunderbird Chandler (Tempe) Masonic Lodge #15, San Bernardino York Rite, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, and a lifetime contributor to Shriners Hospitals for children. Mr. Neeb is survived by his beloved partner of 19 years, Patricia E. Smith; his loving daughter Kathleen Neeb; three grandchildren, Izaiah, Shane and Scott Edey; and his sister Rayma-Lew Craver. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Elks Lodge #836, 2055 Elks Drive San Bernardino Calif., 92404 at 2:00 p.m. The family is requesting that contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Los Angeles be made in lieu of flowers.
