Richard Houston Ardrey

ARLINGTON RICHARD HOUSTON (DICK) ARDREY Age 81, resident of Arlington-Riverside County for 81 years, passed away 08/05/2008 due to a hemorrhagic stroke at the Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside. Dick was born 02/16/1927 in Arlington. He worked for the City of Riverside-Real Property Agent II for 23 years; Insurance Agent-Phoenix Mutual and 4 years Union Central Life; Calelectric Power Co/Edison for 13 years, retiring on 12/27/1991. He served in the Navy as a Radarman Third Class USN for 1½ years. Dick graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1944, Riverside City College and University of Denver in 1950 with a Business Degree in Business Admin and Personal Management. He received the Lifetime PTA Award, numerous BSA Awards, including Silver Beaver Award. Dick was a positive influence on many young peoples' lives. He was a Lay Reader-in-charge to help establish St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Arlington. He was always "GREAT"! He was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church for over 50 years. Dick was a Youth Group Leader at Magnolia Presbyterian Church for over 15 years; docent at Riverside Museum; member of Society of Real Estate Appraisers; active in Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years, both at St. Michael's and at Magnolia Presbyterian Church and on a District Level. He also was a leader for World & National Jamborees and member of Order of the Arrow. Dick is survived by his wife, LaNelle B. Ardrey, Arlington; daughter, Pamela Durene Ardrey Dickerman, Arlington; son-in-law, George F. Dickerman, Riverside; brother, Alan R. Ardrey (Estelle), Riverside; sister, Louise Culbertson, Arlington; 2 grandchildren, Beau Houston Dickerman and Brock Ardrey Dickerman. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Richard Houston (Ricky) Ardrey, Sierra Madre and sister, Jeanne Higdon. Funeral Service on Sept. 2, 10am at St. Michael's Episcopal Church with burial to follow at Olivewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Boy Scout Troop 116 at St. Thomas Church in Arlington, Magnolia Presbyterian Church Youth Group, Riverside Museum, Victoria Ave Forever.
