Richard W. "Dick" Lawrence

RICHARD "DICK" W. LAWRENCE Dick, a long time resident and businessman of Banning, passed away on January 16, 2013 of natural causes at the age of 89 years. He was born August 12, 1923 in Riverside, CA. and passed in Banning, CA. He was born to and preceded by Frank & Luella Lawrence. Raised in Indian Wells, CA. he entered the Army and was assigned to 3rd Ass. Eng. from 11/1943 to 01/1946. Upon discharge he was a self-employed truck driver for 25 years, both as a long haul and local driver. He married Marjorie Brendan in 1948 and they were married for 48 years before her passing in 1996. Together Dick & Marj purchased the "Flying A" service station which became "Phillips 66" and later it became the original "Dick's Tire Mart" to include Banning Cab Co. and U-Haul on the corner of 4th & Ramsey Streets in downtown Banning. Before his retirement Dick & Marj were involved in many Community organizations, where he was a Lions Club member for 25 years, he retired in 1986. Dick had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile to match. In addition to working hard, Dick also enjoyed playing hard at fishing, boating and traveling to Ensenada, Mexico and Oceanside, CA with his children and grandchildren. He and Marj owned a vacation home in Oceanside for many years where he enjoyed his retirement. Dick is survived by his children; Ginger Wall (Bob) of Angelus Oaks, CA, Craig Lawrence (Mary) of Clayton, WA and Karen Miranda (Ted) of Banning, CA; 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, also 7 surviving sisters and 1 brother. Dick is preceded by 1 sister. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 @ 11:00 a.m. at Wiefels and Son Mortuary Memorial Chapel, 50 E. Nicolet St., Banning, CA with burial immediately following services at San Gorgonio Memorial Park.
