SIMON WILLIAM MELENDEZ Simon William Melendez was born on April 27, 1929 in Dona Ana, New Mexico to Simon Melendrez and Adeline Hatten. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Los Angeles, where he starred on the Mules' cross-country and track teams and served as the student body president. Si graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in public administration. During the Korean conflict
, Si was a First Lieutenant in the Air Force, flying 21 combat missions and earning the Air Medal. In 1962, Si became the Assistant City Administrator for San Gabriel, California. From 1969 until 1976, Si served as Norco's City Manager. He was also active with the Lions Club and the American Legion. From 1976 until his retirement, Si was a general contractor. Si is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mickey; his sister, Ruby Harvey; his children, David (Stephani), Simon Jr., John and Michael (Anne); and his grandchildren, Anthony, Amanda, Johnny, Jacob, Spencer, Sarah Joy, Allison, Andrew, Christopher and Patrick. A service to celebrate Simon's life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Beacon Hill Assembly of God, 1990 Norco Drive, Norco, California.
