Yvonne M. Celse(1932 - 2014)

YVONNE M. CELSE, 81, of Riverside, California, passed away peacefully at her home on March 25, 2014, surrounded by loving family. All who knew Yvonne recognized her as an energetic woman, a compassionate and active community member, a person who made friends with everyone she met. Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Norman J. Celse. She is survived by her children, all of whom live in Riverside, Craig Celse and wife Denise; Christine Celse Martin and husband Tim; Lisa Alfred and husband John; two grandchildren, Claire Alfred of Northridge and Janna Alfred currently studying in Paris, France; and sister Marsha Williams of Santa Barbara. Yvonne was born to Marshall and Audrey Myers on April 28, 1932. A lifelong California resident, she grew up in Pasadena. She met and married her husband, Norm, while attending college at UC Santa Barbara. In addition to caring for and raising her family, Yvonne was a dedicated elementary school teacher in RUSD for over 20 years. Her heart for learning as well as helping others learn and grow extended far beyond the classroom. Family, friends and students enjoyed learning to sew, appreciate nature, bake pies, and quilt under Yvonne's generous instruction. Yvonne's passion for learning and teaching was encouraged by her travels. Trips taken with her husband, children, sister, and friends had her visiting dozens of countries, hundreds of cities, and charming villages throughout the world. These travels provided her with memories and delightful stories she enthusiastically shared. Yvonne's community involvement included volunteering and participation with many organizations and ministries in Riverside. She was an active member at All Saints' Episcopal Church, a Quilters' Guild member and president, Youth Service Center Board Member, Salvation Army Board Member and volunteer, Assistance League member, Path of Life Ministries volunteer, Mission Inn docent, and a long standing member of The Bridge Group. Yvonne's interests were numerous. Her love for the mountains started in her teens. She spent many summer weekends enjoying the mountain cabin she shared with her family, friends and even her students. She truly enjoyed and excelled at sewing, cooking, shopping, and reading book after book. As a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend, Yvonne will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 3847 Terracina Dr., Riverside on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. If you would like to make a donation in Yvonne's name, please consider Path of Life Ministries, Family Shelter.
