Bartemus Singletary

BARTEMUS (BART) R. SINGLETARY Age 82, life-time resident of Riverside, CA, passed away 09/25/2009, due to his heart stopping while in for physical therapy at a Re-hab Hospital in San Bernardino. Bart was born 09/27/1927 in Riverside, CA. He retired as President of Austin Co. in 1992. He served in the Navy during WWII. Bart received his Bachelor Degree in 1986 from UCR at the age of 59. He was a member of the Rotary Riverside. I'm only going to tell you some of the organizations of which he has served as president, founder or director. But keep in mind, that in most of these organizations, one does not attain that position without at least 5 to 7 years of work in various leadership capacities. So here goes: California State Citrus Historical Park Management Corporation, City of Riverside Economic Development Committee, Keep Riverside Ahead, Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, Knollwood Hospital Board of Directors, Riverside Area United Way, Riverside County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, Inland Empire Cultural Foundation, Mission Inn Foundation, Monday Morning Group. It is no wonder that the Great Riverside Chamber of Commerce has recognized Bart as a Citizen of the Year, one of many honors which Bart Singletary has received. Also honored by Inland Congregations United for Change (ICUC) in 1998, the year he suffered a stroke. He also served UCR in a number of capacities including President of the Board of Trustees of the University Foundation and President of the Citizens University Committee. Also Alumnus of the year by UCR and Riverside Community College. Bart is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Bayz Singletary of Riverside; former wife, Joan Coppo Singletary of Riverside; daughters, Julie Singletary of NY, NY, Janet Frederick of San Diego, and Joanne Moyer Rust of Minneapolis, MN; sons, Jeff Singletary of Paris, France and Christian Singletary of Riverside; brothers, "G.W." Singletary and Emmett Singletary, both of Riverside; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mass Sat., 10/03, 10am at St. Francis de Sales with a private family burial at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Charity of Choice.
