Herbert Shoemaker

HERBERT B. SHOEMAKER Herbert crossed the river on June 9, 2011. Herbert was the youngest son of Miles and Margaret Shoemaker. He was brought up during the Great Depression. Life on a farm was difficult and involved days on end of hard work. He often said, "If you never picked cotton, then you don\'t know what hard work is". Herbert did learn many lessons that would serve him well throughout his life. Herbert joined the military and began to pursue his boyhood dream. Back then, there were no bonuses to lure you in. There was only passion to serve. Herbert spent a lot of time in overseas assignments, and was actually overseas in the Orient, when the Korean War broke out. He survived combat there, with no visible scars. He continued the illustrious military career and was involved in battle in the Vietnam conflict, where he flew ninety five combat missions. His next assignment landed him a spot on the 15th Air Force Command Crew where he served until his retirement from his beloved military. Herbert began his formal education two years later and attended the University of California. He also became published nationally in the field of management. He completed his Masters\' Degree at age 52. After his retirement from the civilian work force, Herbert and family moved to a golf course where he pursued his other passion, until his health would no longer allow him to play. Herbert leaves behind his devoted wife of 59 years, Goldia, a loving daughter and grandson, and many nieces and nephews. All will miss him greatly. His only request: Don\'t weep for me, for I have had a good life. God bless all of you.
