Roy Palmer Obituary

ROY GEORGE PALMER Passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the age of 77. He was born to Roy and Marie Palmer in Fairfax, Minnesota and raised in Mount Angel, Oregon where he attended St. Mary\'s Elementary School and Mount Angel Abby Prep High School. Roy received a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Santa Clara and served in the U.S. Army Reserves Corps of Engineers, earning the rank of Captain. Roy began his career as an engineer for the City of Los Angeles, Department of Airports at Los Angeles International Airport where he met his wife of 48 years, Patricia. In 1962, Roy and Pat moved to Riverside where he started his private engineering practice, Palmer Engineering, Inc., which he proudly operated for nearly 40 years. The firm served many clients throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including Stater Brothers Markets. While a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the California Society of Professional Engineers, Roy met many of his close, long-time friends. Roy, a loving husband and devoted father, is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Palmer of Riverside; his daughter and her husband, Susan and Edward Sayer of Pasadena. He was blessed with four grandchildren: Scott, Audrey, Everett and Mary. In addition, Roy is survived by brothers, John and Daniel Palmer; sisters, Rose Dryden and Mary Kligel; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Oregon. He was preceded in death by siblings Helen Beyer and Michael Palmer. Roy loved fishing, snow skiing, golfing, gardening and most of all, traveling with his wife. Roy\'s deep spiritual faith was witnessed by his involvement in the Catholic church. He served on St. Catherine\'s Parish Council and also was elected President of Riverside Serra International, an organization that fosters vocations to the priesthood. A rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29, and will be followed by a memorial mass at 12:00 noon. All services will be held at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Riverside. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Riverside Community Health Foundation are suggested.
