1911 - 2010

WILLIAM ARNOLD HICKMON Age 98, known to his friends as Arnold, was born in Englewood, Kansas on December 29, 1911. Arnold died on September 9, 2010 as the result of a heart attack. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Levada, who died in 1997. He is survived by his son, Michael Lloyd; his daughter-in-law, Encarnita Bahia; his two grandchildren, Michael Arnold and his wife Sonja and Cynthia Elizabeth and her husband Richard Herman; his four great-grandchildren, Brittany Levada Chapman, Ocean Jewel Chapman, Joseph Michael Hickmon and Michael William Hickmon and many grand nieces and grand nephews. Arnold was know in the family by several names, Arnold, Dad, Grandpa, GP and GrandTito. He will be missed very much by those who loved him. Arnold had a very special sense of humor that even in the most trying times never failed to bring a smile to peoples faces. He was also the one in the family that everybody could go to if they forgot a date or a phone number, at ninety eight he still had a very sharp mind. Arnold worked as a Station Assistant Superintendent in the Post Office in Riverside, CA and retired in 1968. He was an amateur radio operator W6DSH since the age of thirteen. He joined the Coast Guard in 1942 as a radio operator and joined the ship only one week after enlisting. He served on board the Attack Transport USS Arthur Middleton, APA-25, when they landed troops on Eniwetok, Saipan and Tarawa in the Pacific.
