Barbara Jean Mann Obituary
BARBARA JEAN MANN March 29, 1940 - July 20, 2013 Barbara was born to Robert and Bernice Clark and grew up in the Chicago suburb of Villa Park, Illinois. She began work at the A&P Tea grocery store in 1956 where she met a college bound young man. She married David soon after her graduation from York Community High School in January, 1959. They were married 54 years. Initially they lived in Rensselaer, Indiana. Barbara supported her husband's academic and military career in nine different states over the years and raised three children. After leaving the Air Force, the family moved to Riverside, CA in 1980. She became active in school programs in the Riverside Unified School District and was a special education aide at both Castleview and Franklin Elementary schools. She retired in 2001. Through the years, she was also a championship youth soccer coach in both AYSO and CYSA-South. In AYSO, her Lightning Bolt boy's teams won city titles in 1981 and 1982. Barbara's boy's under-12 Riverside Lightning Club Soccer team was the first Riverside County team to win a state title in May 1983. Her boy's under-14 team won a championship in 1990 and finally, the Chino Spirit boy's under-18 team that she managed won the national level state title in 1994. Her coaching success and volunteer work in youth soccer organizations was widely recognized and acclaimed. Barbara was taken from us to be with God after a long struggle with kidney disease. She left behind her husband David; sister Phyllis Miller; brother Robert Clark; sons Randy (Marci) and Danny(Jenny); daughter Carolyn (Ernie); grandchildren Madeline, Miller, Jillian, Aemelia, Alexis; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Barbara was a remarkable wife and mother. She was a truly loving soul who was devoted to her family and had a deep loving concern for all children. She excelled in arts and crafts and her crocheted wedding blankets were a work of art. She was an avid LA Lakers fan who rarely missed a game on TV and often attended games on Christmas Day with her family. Her constant companion to the very end was her pet toy poodle of eleven years, KOBE. She was an amazing woman, energetic, caring, and kind. Barbara Jean will be missed by many. Viewing (5PM) and Celebration of Life Services (6PM) will be held at Acheson and Graham Mortuary Chapel, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA on Saturday, July 27. Light refreshments and continued viewing will be available at 7PM. Interment will be Monday, July 29 @ Riverside National Cemetery at 9:15am.
