Bobby Adcock Obituary

BOBBY EDWARD ADCOCK 72, of Riverside, CA, died Sunday evening in his home. A memorial service will be held at 10am, Friday, September 2, at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church in Riverside. Born on December 7, 1939 in Chariton, Iowa, to Clem and Alma Adcock, Bob was the youngest of six brothers and one sister. In 1947 Bob's family moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico. In 1958 he received a football scholarship to attend Oklahoma State University. At OSU he met the love of his life, Coleen Gentry, whom he married on January 20, 1962. Following two years in the Army, Bob moved to Riverside. Over the next 37 years he partnered with brothers Roy and Don operating Adcock Auto Supply. He was a committed member of Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church. Bob retired in December of 2001 and was diagnosed with cancer eight months later. Through his 8 1/2 year battle, he never gave up and was able to enjoy wonderful God-given moments with grandchildren, family, and friends. Bob truly was a "friend to all" and a "stranger to no one". He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, John, Paul, Bill, Donald and Roy; one sister, Ada. Bob is survived by his wife, Coleen; two sons and their wives, Joe and Tiffany, and Gary and Mandy; four grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Dalton, and Delaney; and brother, Philip. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bob Adcock Memorial Fund at California Baptist University.

I was a regular at Adcock's auto supply on Main St. in the '60's while working on my modified Henry J and other cars. Bob helped me in so many ways with finding one-off parts. A real great guy along with his brothers. He made an impact in my life. My condolences to the famiy.

I have know Bobby ever since I was born. He was my Uncle Bill's brother. I spent a lot of time with Uncle Bill and Aunt Gladys. Bob was very close
to both Bill and Gladys. He was a great man, and a very carrying man. He will be missed by many.

Bob was a great Rattler and always loved coming to Tucumcari for the Rattler Reunion. I fondly remember him as a student at THS--he was a true gentleman.

Uncle Bob was an amazing man of God, a mentor to many, and an incredible example of determination and perseverance. You could always count on him for a laugh, a story, or a friendly punch in the arm. Many fond memories of UCLA football games, Christmas parties, and Sundays at church. He will be missed.
