Christine Dolores Luker Obituary
CHRISTINE DOLORES LUKER Age 62, of Menifee, died June 15, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Born in Riverside on March 16, 1951, and into the Pico Family of Pechanga, Christine came from a long line of Tribal leaders. It was often said that she was the one with the biggest heart. She graduated in 1969 from Perris High School in Perris, California. Christine married her high school sweetheart, Michael Luker, on August 19, 1972. Christine and Michael made their life in the Perris and Menifee Valleys, raising four children. Christine was an amazing mom and an inspiration in the community. Many called her a saint because she was always taking care of others and serving God. As a child, she wanted to be a teacher; later, as an adult she spent many years teaching children her faith at St. James Church. In four different elementary schools, she inspired and sparked kids' imagination through arts and crafts projects. In baseball, she showed us that hard work and dedication offer great rewards. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she modeled the hope and love that were so evident in her life, encouraging her children to always have hope, and reminding them of the importance of forgiveness. In later years, Christine's passions were her family (especially her grandkids), and enjoying life to the fullest. The Luker family was able to stay close because Christine would plan the best vacations. Many will remember the famous Luker Christmas parties where the kids were treated to gifts from Santa while the parents played games and danced the night away. She spent many hours going the extra mile to take care of tribal members. She was also a founder the first Pechanga Preschool and Education Fund. She led her children by example, teaching them how important it is to give back to the Tribe and stand up for what you believe in. Christine's belief in the value of service to the tribe resulted in two of her children also becoming elected officials at Pechanga and the whole family continues to be involved. Christine was diagnosed with ALS in December 2010. In spite of this debilitating illness, she continued with the help of her family to live life to the fullest. She lived at home and continued to be the focal point of good times in her family. In February, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband Michael Luker; mother Germaine Arenas; children Marc, Amy, Jonathan and Morgan; grandchildren Andrew, Joseph, Matthew, Jeremy, Kathryn, Emily, 'Iolani and Poliahu. Christine was preceded in death by her infant son, Aaron Michael Luker. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. at Evans-Brown Sun City Chapel, 27010 Encanto Drive, Sun City, CA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martha's Roman Catholic Church, 37200 Whitewood Drive, Murrieta, CA. Interment will follow at Perris Valley Cemetery, 915 N. Perris Blvd., Perris, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Christine's memory to a .
